DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Last week's business took place mostly
on Thursday with just scattered deals on Friday. Southern
live trade had a full range of $119 to $121, mostly $120 to
$121, steady to $1 higher than the prior week's weighted
averages. Northern dressed deals had a full range of $193 to
$196, mostly $196, roughly $1 higher than the previous week's
weighted average basis Nebraska. According to Thursday's
Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Summary reports the accumulated
weekly average price totals are as follows (the prior week's
weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS
$120.58($120.50); NE $195.76 ($195.28); TX $120.38($120.22);
IA $195.40($195.35); CO $123.00($122.15).
According to the Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter
Cattle reports weekly trade volume totals were as follows: KS
14,443; NE 23,350; TX 8,900; IA 25,068, CO 2,850. Friday's
slaughter totaled 113,000 head, 2,000 more than the prior
week and 27,000 greater than the previous year. Saturday's
kill was estimated at 70,000 head, bringing the weekly total
to 640,000 head, 1,000 smaller than the week before, but
154,000 larger than 2020.
DTN COMMENTS: A typically quiet Monday morning with bids and
asking prices not established as of yet, and significant trade
volume will likely be delayed until the second half of the
week. Beef cutouts are expected to be mixed with generally
light box movement.
For the week ending April 10, 2021, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 37,557, 96.69% of the previous week
and 95.19% of the 4-week average.
